Vienna Restaurant Inspections: Paisano's Pizza, Pazzo Pomodoro

VIENNA, VA — As the Fairfax County Health Department regularly inspects restaurants in the Town of Vienna, we continue to look at the latest inspection results.

The health department's environmental health staff inspect over 5,200 restaurants and other retail food service establishments in Fairfax County and cities of Falls Church and Fairfax to ensure safe food handling practices are followed. This includes proper sanitation, food storage and preparation, and adequate kitchen facilities. Aside from restaurants, staff inspect child care centers, hospitals, school cafeterias, and temporary food service vendors at festivals.

Residents can search for a specific restaurant or browse a map of inspected locations through the online database. The health department cautions residents that multiple inspection reports should be used to evaluate a restaurant rather than a single report.

• The food establishment's Permit to Operate is no longer valid due to expiration of the permit. No person shall operate a food establishment unless that person possesses a valid permit issued by the Health Department.
• The following food item(s) from damaged packaging were found offered for sale or service: dented cans of olives and marinara sauce on a canned food rack.
• There was no Certified Food Manager present at the beginning of the inspection.
• Observed the handsink locate not to the 3-vat sink was observed being used the storage of small buckets.
• Surfaces of the can opener blade and handle were observed soiled with accumulations of grime and debris.
• Wet wiping cloths used for wiping counters and other equipment surfaces were observed stored on the counter.

• Grease extraction filters in the hood system are not easily removable. Two of the grease filters under the hood system were damaged.
• Openings to the exterior of the building are present along the base of the back entrance to the restaurant.
• The plumbing at the 3-compartment sink is not being maintained in good repairs. The hot water hand n the cold ware hands on the faucets are not operating properly. Repair these handles to provide both hot and cold water or replace the sink if repairs can no longer be done.
