One Man Two Guvnors is an English rewrite of the Italian classic, The Servant of Two Masters. Set in 1963, out-of-work skiffle band player Francis becomes separately employed by two men – Roscoe, a small time East End hood, and Stanley Stubbers, an upper class twit. Francis tries to keep the two from meeting, in order to avoid each of them learning that Francis works for both of them. Complicating events, Roscoe Crabbe is really Rachel Crabbe in disguise, her twin brother Roscoe having been killed by her boyfriend, who is none other than Stanley. Further complications ensue by a local mobster who has arranged his daughter’s engagement to Roscoe despite her preference for an amateur actor and other zany twists occur prompted by several letters, a heavy trunk, several unlucky audience volunteers, and Francis’ pursuit of his twin passions: Dolly, Charlie’s feminist bookkeeper, and food.
