Vienna Turkey Trot Set For Thanksgiving Week
The Madison High School band, which just won a state championship, is hosting the event.

VIENNA, VA—Before filling plates with heaping piles of food on Thanksgiving, some like to burn calories in preparation during local Turkey Trots. Vienna will have its own Turkey Trot on Sunday, Nov. 18 near the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, 400 Center Street South.
Hosted by the James Madison High School Band, the 16th annual race will feature hundreds of runners, walkers, and spectators. This annual holiday tradition includes timed 5K and 10K running/walking events at 8:30 a.m. preceded by a kids "fun run" at 8 a.m. Live performances by the JMHS band will entertain race participants along the way.
After the race, there will be awards, music, prizes, refreshments and the Finish Line Festival. Each overall winner receives a turkey for Thanksgiving from Whole Foods in Vienna. There will also be awards for age groups.

"The JMHS Band Parents Organization is thrilled to be carrying on this Northern Virginia Thanksgiving tradition again this year," said race co-director and JMHS band parent Heléna Klumpp. "It’s always humbling to see our sponsors and community members turn out in such large numbers to support music in our schools."
Race proceeds benefit the JMHS Band program and Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. The JMHS marching ensemble was named grand champion and Commonwealth Cup winner at the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative State Finals in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Saturday, Nov. 3.
