After Years-Long Process, Vienna Code Update Close To Final Approval
The zoning code update, which is getting its first major update since 1969, will advance to public hearings in July.

VIENNA, VA — Vienna's town government is taking a major step forward in updating its zoning code as part of a years-long process.
On Monday, Vienna Town Council scheduled two public hearings on the zoning code update. The public hearings are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday, July 10 and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12 at Vienna Town Hall, 127 Center Street S, Vienna, VA.
The zoning code regulates land uses within the Town of Vienna, including permitted building heights, parking requirements, lighting standards and land uses for commercial, public, and residential properties. Town Council has already approved portions of the zoning code, including outdoor dining guidelines, residential lot coverage and porch setbacks.

The Town of Vienna's last major code update happened in 1969. The town code is being updated to help it meet modern-day land use needs, maintain Vienna's small town feel, and include language all can understand, according to the town government. The Code Create Vienna initiative to update the zoning code has included collaboration between town officials, planning and zoning staff, residents and businesses.
The full draft zoning code is available to review online. Town Council will receive feedback during the public hearings in July, then the Planning Commission will review and provide a final recommendation. Final action by Town Council is expected in the fall.
