Springfield Man Faces Felony Drug Charge After Stafford Traffic Stop

A Springfield man and Fredericksburg woman face felony drug charges following an early-morning traffic stop in Stafford County.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — A Springfield man and a Fredericksburg woman were arrested early Tuesday after a Stafford County sheriff’s deputy conducting a traffic stop reported finding narcotics, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy saw a vehicle driving erratically near Richmond Highway and Centreport Parkway around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and reported seeing narcotics on the driver.

A search of the vehicle uncovered additional narcotics and drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities did not identify the suspected drugs or disclose the quantities recovered.

The driver was identified as Hung Pham, 54, of Springfield. The passenger was identified as Thuong Nguyen, 31, of Fredericksburg.

Both were charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance and held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on secured bonds, according to the sheriff’s office.

Stafford General District Court records identify Pham as Hung Thanh Pham and list his Springfield address. He was charged under Virginia Code § 18.2-250 with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, which the court record lists as a Class 5 felony. He was arrested Sept. 15 and remained listed in custody when the court record was accessed Thursday.

Court records identify Nguyen as Thuong Thi Hoai Nguyen and show that she faces the same Class 5 felony charge.

Both defendants are scheduled for preliminary hearings at 1 p.m. Dec. 10 in Stafford General District Court. Their Sept. 15 arraignments were continued, according to court records.

The court records do not show a disposition in either case. Pham is represented by attorney Reginald Henderson, while Nguyen's court record lists a public defender.
