Report: Alexandria Police Look Into Possible Connection Between Two Murders

Women were killed within a mile of each other in similar manner, police say.

Were the murders of Asabech Abayneh and Carolyn Cross in Alexandria connected in some way? The two women were killed about a mile apart, each from strangulation, and police are looking into similarities, according to a report by CBS News/AP.

Abayneh, 43, was killed Friday, July 4, at her home in the 5600 block of Derby Court near Winkler Preserve. She was a cook at a local restaurant.

Cross, 64, was killed last weekend; her body was found Sunday, Sept. 7, at her home at the Seminary Towers apartment building, located at 4701 Kenmore Ave. about a mile from Abayneh’s home.

Alexandria Police have charged Dawit S. Seyoum, 29, with first-degree murder in Cross’s death. The Washington Post reported that Seyoum lived in a nearby apartment building.
