Body Camera Test Begins Next Week for Prince William County Police

Local department and stakeholders ready to record amid national transparency concerns and police-involved deaths.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Prince William County Police will begin field-testing body cameras next week.

Thirty body-worn cameras will be used throughout the agency for 60 days, after which the results will be reviewed and evaluated by the police department and internal community stakeholders.

Their report then will be presented to the Board of County Supervisors for its consideration and direction.

Use of police body cameras have been increasing over the past few months as law enforcement agencies seek to assuage citizens' concerns about a perceived lack of transparency and accountability.

Prince William County approved its plan last year, and the police department says it's "continuously seeking ways to improve how we serve the community while strengthening the mutual trust and respect."
