'Life-Threatening' Injuries For Teen Shot In Dumfries: Police

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A 15-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the face in Dumfries on Thursday morning, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Another teen, who authorities identified as a 17-year-old from Fairfax, was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm.

Officer learned of the shooting just before 2 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12. The shooting occurred at a home in the 2800 block of Banks Court in Dumfries, according to police.

Through their investigation, officers determined that the 17-year-old was handling a gun in the home when it discharged. The fired round struck the 15-year-old victim in the face, police said.

The police were immediately contacted, and officers provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived. Rescue personnel took the victim to a nearby hospital for further treatment, according to police. "The injury was determined to be life-threatening," the police department wrote in their report.

The two teens knew each other, police said. The 17-year-old was arrested at the scene without further incident, and the gun was recovered from the scene.

The 17-year-old boy from Fairfax was charged with one count of reckless handling of a firearm causing serious bodily injury and one count of possession of a firearm by a juvenile. His court date is pending and he was held at the Juvenile Detention Center.

The Dumfries shooting was one of several gun-related incidents reported across Prince William County in recent days.

On Wednesday evening, Prince William County police officers investigated a shooting into a residential dwelling. A homeowner in the 15000 block of Blackburn Road in Woodbridge reported a bullet hole near their front door. A bullet was found in the wall, according to police.

Two other incidents were reported where drivers "brandished a firearm" during disputes, authorities said. In Dumfries, one man reported that another driver waved a gun in the air during a road rage incident.

On Tuesday in Woodbridge, a woman reported that her food delivery driver pulled a gun on her after a dispute about the order. The woman refused to accept the order since the bag was not properly sealed, according to the report. During an argument, the driver retrieved a gun from his black Jeep with Maryland plates.
