The Fire Marshal’s Office worked with the Prince William County Police Department and was supported by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in the investigation.

Units arrived at 7:20 a.m. Thursday to the home in the 200 block of Broadway Street.

Five other occupants were rescued and treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

Prince William County Fire and Rescue Chief Kevin McGee urges residents to take precautions when smoking. “Smoking materials are the leading cause of fire deaths and although unintentional, the majority of home smoking-material fires are caused by human error.”
