U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect in Saturday Shootout Near Dumfries
Prince William County police: Stafford man was tracked down to D.C. residence.

A suspect involved in a shootout Saturday between two speeding cars near Dumfries was arrested Monday by U.S. marshals in a neighborhood in Washington, D.C.
Members of the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force apprehended Deante Maurice Gaines, 19, of the 500 block of Widewater Road in Stafford County, according to the Prince William County police. The task force located and arrested Gaines without incident at a residence in the 4600 block of Benning Road in Washington.

Gaines is charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, one count of shooting from a moving vehicle and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a Prince William police report said.
He remains jailed in Washington until extradited to Virginia, the Prince William police said.

At 2:06 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the 17900 block of Swans Creek Lane near Dumfries after multiple callers reported that two vehicles were driving recklessly down Swans Creek Lane, with the occupants shooting towards each other. Multiple homes and a vehicle were struck, police said, but no injuries were reported.
Gaines was reportedly seen by witnesses shooting from a gold Saab towards the other vehicle, described by police as “a red Kia, unknown model.”
The investigation into this incident is continuing as detectives search for the other vehicle and seek to identify the other suspects involved.
