Settlement opens door for Rush to pursue smaller development in Purdy (gigharbornow.org) — A legal settlement between Gig Harbor, Pierce County, and Rush Companies clears the way for a much smaller, septic-served housing project near Purdy Elementary instead of a 90-unit, city-sewered plan. The deal follows years of disputes over Purdy's removal from Gig Harbor's urban growth area and a Growth Management Board ruling, and it sets a one-home-per-acre density standard for the site.
4. Thai cafe gets 75 red points. Here are Pierce Co. food scores for Aug. 17 (thenewstribune.com) — Pierce County health inspectors recently cited several eateries, including the Taqueria El Guero food truck on Purdy Drive in Gig Harbor, for multiple critical food-safety violations that require follow-up. Issues ranged from improper cooling and cold-holding temperatures to unsafe storage of raw meats, though inspectors also documented on-the-spot corrections and discards to reduce potential illness risks.
5. New Leaders Get 'Their Turn to Shine' for Peninsula Soccer (keypennews.org) — Peninsula High's girls soccer team is reloading this fall, but their path to another league title still runs through rival Gig Harbor, which has dominated recent championship meetings. Coach José Brambila is leaning on new leaders and added depth as the Seahawks chase a deeper state run, with the big Gig Harbor showdown set for Oct. 27 at Roy Anderson Field.
