Pierce County Sheriff Primary Election Results 2020
After 19 years, Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor will be retiring. Tuesday's vote will determine which candidates will vie to replace him.

PUYALLUP, WA — With the impending retirement of Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor after serving 19 years on the job, four candidates are running in the primary election to replace him. Tuesday's primary election will narrow the field down to just two candidates who will face off in November.
The four candidates are Cyndie Fajardo, former President of the Pierce County Deputy Sheriffs Guild; Darin G. Harris, a veteran and Department of Defense Police Officer Sergeant; Doug Richardson, a Pierce County Councilmember and former Mayor of Lakewood, and Ed Troyer, the current public information officer for the department.
Whoever wins the election will end up at the helm leading over 600 law enforcement officers and corrections officers, as well as nearly 150 civilian personnel serving the Sheriff's Department.

In Washington, ballots are tabulated each day following the election, and percentages will continue to change in the days ahead. Results are final upon certification by the Secretary of State's office, due by Friday, Aug. 21.
