Motorcyclist Suing King County Over Deputy Who Pulled Gun

During an August 2017 traffic stop, a plain clothes King County detective pulled a gun on motorcyclist Alex Randall.

SEATTLE, WA - The motorcyclist who was threatened with a gun by a King County detective last August is suing in federal, claiming that the detective and county violated his civil rights.

Alex Randall, 31, was driving along Northeast 145th Street in Shoreline on Aug. 16 when he stopped at a light near 5th Avenue Northeast. Randall has said that an unmarked car pulled up behind him with its lights on, and that's when Det. Richard Rowe approached him with a gun drawn.

"Using profanity, Rowe threatened to 'dump' [Randall] if [Randall] attempted to move his motorcycle. Defendant Rowe than reached into Randall's front pocket and removed his wallet without Randall's consent, while continuing to hold Randall at gunpoint," the lawsuit alleges.

The suit alleges that Rowe used excessive force, and that King County failed to properly train Rowe.

Rowe was placed on leave after the incident. King County Sheriff Mitzi Johanknecht suspended Rowe, who is based out of Woodinville, for five days on April 16.
