New Seasons Leaving Seattle, Mercer Island Under Merger Deal
New Seasons will join Metropolitan Market's parent company and close its two locations in the Seattle area.
SEATTLE, WA — New Seasons Market will close its Ballard location and convert its Mercer Island store into a Metropolitan Market under a merger agreement announced Tuesday. The Portland-based company said New Seasons and New Leaf Market will join Good Food Holdings, Metropolitan Market's parent company, but continue to operate independently.
The Ballard New Seasons location opened in May 2018 and will close before the New Year. The Mercer Island store opened in Nov. 2016 and will convert by mid-2020. New Seasons has also scrapped controversial plans to open a store in Seattle's Central District.
In a news release, New Seasons said it will work to connect Ballard staff with jobs at stores in Portland, or Metropolitan Market locations in Seattle. The merger deal is expected to close in January 2020.
