New Seattle Cat Cafe Opens Tuesday

You'll be able to get a latte, a pastry, and a Maine coon at Neko Cat Cafe on Capitol Hill.

SEATTLE, WA - Seattle is getting its newest "cat cafe" on Tuesday when Neko Cat Cafe opens along Pine Street on Capitol Hill. What's a cat cafe? It's a cafe where you can drink coffee or beer while cuddling with a cat.

Neko Cat Cafe partnered with Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) to source cats, which means you can also adopt them. Neko Cat Cafe will have seven to 12 cats in the cafe at any given time. But you have to make a reservation to visit.

Neko joins other local cat cafes including Seattle Meowtropolitan in Wallingford, Kitty Catfe in Edmonds, and the Emerald City Kitty Cafe in West Seattle, which Emerald City Pet Rescue operates.

Although it's a novel concept in the U.S., cat cafes are popular in Asia. Neko owner Caitlin Unsell encountered kitty cafes while living abroad in Japan and Vietnam.

"While she wasn't busy teaching Kindergarten in Japan, she visited every cat cafe possible, dreaming of opening her own upon her return to Seattle. The combination of her love for cats and a decade in the restaurant industry made NEKO a natural progression," the Neko website says.
