No Inquiry In Death Of Seattle Man In Silicone Injection Scene

Jack Chapman was reportedly heavily involved in a subculture where men inject their scrotums with silicone. SPD won't investigate.

SEATTLE, WA - A Seattle man who was reportedly heavily involved in a kink subculture involving silicone injection died accidentally, which means Seattle police can't investigate the death as a criminal matter.

A recent report in The Stranger detailed the death of Jack Chapman. Chapman was involved in a relationship with a man named Dylan Ray Hafertepen. Part of that relationship involved a fetish where the men would enlarge their scrotums by injecting silicone.

But those injections are often done improperly outside medical supervision. Adverse reactions to silicone injections, The Stranger reported, include infections and embolisms. Three weeks before he died, Chapman wrote a will, reportedly leaving everything he had to Hafertepen.

Because the King County Medical Examiner ruled Chapman's death an accident, SPD can't look into whether Hafertepen was involved, according to a statement the department released Thursday:

The Seattle Police Department has reviewed the medical file related to this death, as well as concerns from the community, and concur with the Medical Examiner’s findings. In keeping with the findings, the department does not have jurisdiction and cannot investigate cases where cause of death is accidental. The department would like to express its sympathy to the man’s family, friends and loved ones.

Chapman was from Australia. His mother recently appeared on TV there confronting Hafertepen about Chapman's death.
