SEATTLE — Phones around portions of Kitsap and King County lit up with tornado warnings Tuesday afternoon, as forecasters tracked the potential for a rotation developing in the latest storm system.

The National Weather Service's Seattle office issued a tornado warning at noon for Central Kitsap County, including the towns of Suquamish, Brownsville and Bainbridge Island's Rollingbay. The warning expired shortly before 12:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service said some residents mistakenly received an alert on their phones, despite being well outside the area of concern, including many in the city of Seattle. There was no tornado warning in effect for King County.

A second special marine warning took effect later in the afternoon, covering a large portion of Puget Sound waterways.

Even with the tornado threat subsiding, NWS Seattle said severe weather concerns were not over for Tuesday, and a separate weather statement went into effect for much of the region, including Seattle, Bellevue and Everett.
