Seattle's Cafe Racer To Close Wednesday

The closure comes as the owner of the well-known Roosevelt bar and coffee house search for a buyer.

SEATTLE, WA - The revered Roosevelt bar, coffee house, and performance space Cafe Racer will close its doors on Wednesday, according to the owner. The news comes after the venue put itself up for sale in March. Owner Kurt Geissel said that he's still selling the cafe, but "can no longer support it."

It is with great sadness that I have to say this...
Café Racer is closing.
The last night will be this Wednesday.
Lord knows the café has had it's ups and downs but it has been 14 years of art and music and community. No one can take that away from us.
But I just can no longer support it. It is still for sale, and I've had some offers, who wanted to carry on what the café is, but for one reason or another, they have falling through. Contact me if you are interested because the last thing I want is for the café to go away.
I'm sorry. This is the last thing that I wanted to happen.
Love,
Kurt

Known as a hangout for artists and musicians, Cafe Racer was also the site of a mass shooting in June 2012: four people were killed inside the cafe, and the shooter and another person died in an incident shortly after. But the cafe, which first opened in 2004 as Lucky Dog, was able to reopen after the shooting, and continued to host artists and musicians from around the region.
