Summer Solstice 2018: 3 Facts About Summer In Puget Sound

The National Weather Service sees the possibility of above-normal temperatures over the next three months.

SEATTLE, WA - Hello and welcome to summer. The 2018 summer solstice hits Thursday morning around 3 a.m. Thursday will be the longest day of 2018, and long-range forecasts indicate we're in for another hot, dry summer in Puget Sound.

Here are three things to know about summer 2018 in Puget Sound:

1) According to the National Weather Service, the one-month temperature outlook indicates a 40 percent chance temperatures will be above normal across Washington. Similarly, there's about a 40 percent chance of below-average precipitation over the next month.

2) The three-month outlook is even hotter, with the National Weather Service predicting a 50 percent chance of higher-than-usual temperatures around Puget Sound. If you remember summer 2017, the end of July and beginning of August were particularly hot. Cities across the region opened cooling centers as temperatures soared close to 100 degrees and above.

3) Thursday's forecast calls for sun and temperatures in the low 70s, a welcome reprieve from several days of 85-degree plus temperatures. This solstice, Puget Sound will get about 16 hours of sunlight - one of only five states (not including Alaska) to get so much June sun.
