'You're Gonna Get Shot': SPD Releases Video Of Fatal Shooting

A Seattle officer shot and killed a 36-year-old man Monday evening during a struggle in the Licton Springs neighborhood.

SEATTLE, WA - Video released Thursday by Seattle police of a fatal New Year's Eve officer-involved shooting shows a brief struggle between multiple police officers and a man who appears to be holding a gun.

In one video segment, an officer can be seen holding a gun to Iosia Faletogo's neck or head. One officer screams "You're gonna get f--kin shot, dude!" several times, and another officer can be heard shouting, "Taser, Taser, Taser" a few seconds before a single shot rings out.

Police pulled Faletogo, 36, over around 5 p.m. on Monday. According to the video, multiple officers pulled in behind Faletogo's car outside the Z Food Mart store. Police stopped Faletogo due to a suspended license and because he was seen making an improper lane change.

One officer even remarks, "You got the whole gang here," after arriving and seeing the number of patrol cars on scene.

As the officers stand nearby discussing what to do about Faletogo, he jumps out of his car and runs west across Aurora Avenue. At least four officers can be seen chasing him.

The officers catch up to Faletogo alongside the Crown Inn on North 96th Street. At least three officers pile on top of Faletogo, screaming for him to drop his weapon. In several frames of video, a gun can be seen on the sidewalk beneath Faletogo.

About 20 seconds passes between the when officers began struggling with Faletogo and when he gets shot.

Seattle police initially said video of the incident would be released Wednesday. After a 2017 officer-involved shooting in the Eastlake neighborhood, police released multiple pieces of footage in under 48 hours. Police released footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting in February in about 24 hours.

The department's force investigation team are still investigating what happened on Monday night.

Faletogo's family held a vigil for him Tuesday night near where he was shot. Relatives say it would be "out of character" for him to be carrying a gun.
