2. Orchard next to Pangborn slated for $365,000 removal (ncwbusiness.com) — Port officials in East Wenatchee are moving ahead with a $365,000 project to remove 44 acres of aging Van Well orchard next to Pangborn Memorial Airport, aiming to protect compatible land uses around the runway. Work could begin in October and wrap up by December, with commissioners exploring options like biochar or composting to reduce disposal costs and support industrial reuse.
   

3. Three local women receive P.E.O. scholarships for higher education (ncwbusiness.com) — Women in the Wenatchee Valley are getting a boost toward their degrees through local P.E.O. Chapter JF scholarships, including support for a Wenatchee resident studying Radiologic Technology at Wenatchee Valley College. Two Leavenworth‑area recipients are pursuing counseling degrees and interning or working in local health and social‑service settings, aiming to expand mental health and Spanish‑language services in the region. The chapter also invites community members to learn how to support future awards.
   

4. Douglas County Sheriff's Office Joins Highway Safety Effort (kw3.com) — Drivers from Wenatchee and Douglas County saw heavy enforcement over Labor Day as the Wenatchee detachment of the Washington State Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff's Office made nearly 500 traffic stops and three DUI arrests on SR 2/97. The HiVE patrols followed several serious crashes, including a fatal head-on collision, and officials say the increased visibility is meant to remind motorists that speeding and impaired driving have life-changing consequences.
   

5. Cashmere-Dryden Airport Day is Saturday (ncwlife.com) — A short drive from Wenatchee, Cashmere‑Dryden Airport Day this Saturday will showcase more than 50 planes, helicopters, antique cars, and hands‑on activities for all ages. Visitors can climb into aircraft, talk with pilots, and watch remote‑control demonstrations by the Wenatchee Red Apple Fliers, while learning how this small county airport supports firefighting and local tourism. Admission is free.
