Man who tried to break into Narcan box at Social Justice Center, attacked 911 caller arres (fox47.com) — Police say a man tried to break into the free Narcan box at Madison's Social Justice Center on Williams Street Thursday night, then assaulted the 911 caller who reported him. He was arrested and faces multiple charges, as the city simultaneously moves toward a public nuisance action after hundreds of service calls and ongoing safety concerns at the site.
   

2. Construction advances on Madison school referendum projects (spectrumnews1.com) — Construction is moving ahead on the Madison school district's $507 million referendum projects, with new buildings for Blackhawk, Gompers, Sherman, and Shabazz schools already taking shape. Madison taxpayers will pay about $27 more per month through 2048 to fund modern, flexible learning spaces, with the first new schools expected to open in summer 2027.
   

3. Two-day event series at UW-Madison focuses on student loneliness and connection (wmtv15news.com) — UW–Madison students will soon have a free, two-day "Future Friends" series on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 focused on easing loneliness and building in‑person connections, including yoga, a film screening, financial literacy sessions, and a Mt. Joy concert. Events will be phone‑free and coordinated with NAMI, UW mental health services, and UW Athletics to connect students with ongoing support and new friendships.

Madison man sentenced to 11 years in prison for drug trafficking (wmtv15news.com) — A Madison man has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison, plus eight years of supervised release, for distributing large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl tied to a 2023 case. Prosecutors said he supplied hundreds of grams of meth and smaller amounts of fentanyl, underscoring ongoing concerns about dangerous drug trafficking affecting Madison and surrounding communities.
   

5. Wisconsin volleyball 'lost the effort' in win vs UW-Milwaukee (jsonline.com) — Wisconsin volleyball, playing at UW Field House in Madison, beat UW-Milwaukee in four sets but admitted the performance lacked effort and consistency. Coach Kelly Sheffield and players highlighted defensive lapses, serving errors, and mixed energy, while also noting strong contributions from bench players as the Badgers tune up in Madison ahead of Big Ten play.
