Here Are 5 Music Festivals In Birmingham You Shouldn't Miss

As spring gets into full swing, music festivals will start popping up on calendars in Birmingham over the next several months.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - As warmer weather starts to creep into Birmingham, more music festivals in the Magic City are starting to pop up on the local calendar. Birmingham has a rich music history, and that not only includes a critically-acclaimed local music scene, but also a bevy of music festivals throughout the area. From May through August, music fans in the city have a wealth of choices when it comes to attending music festivals in the metro area.

Here are five festivals to put on your calendar:

Do Dah Day Festival; May 19, Highland Park, Birmingham: Benefiting animal rescue services, this is one of the city’s oldest music and arts events. Homemade floats and animals dressed in costume parade the streets of Highland Park, with music from local artists throughout the day.

Steel City Jazz Festival; June 1-2, Legion Field, Birmingham: A celebration of jazz music featuring 15 artists. Performers include Ben Tankard, Pieces of a Dream, Peabo Bryson, Jeffrey Osborne and Eric Essex. $55-$250

Slicefest; June 16, Slice Pizza and Brewhouse, Birmingham: This day-long block party features local and regional music artists, craft beers and specialty pizzas. Music from Big Gigantic, The Original Wailers, Big Something, The Vegabonds, Too Many Zooz, Luthi, Will Stewart, Riverbend and more. $25-$200

Sloss Music & Arts Festival; July 14-15, Sloss Furnaces, Birmingham: Southern Living magazine calls this event “one of the iconic Southern festivals.” Performers in this year's Slossfest include Chris Stapleton, Arcade Fire, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Griz, War on Drugs, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Vance Joy and more. $130-$850

Secret Stages; August 3-4, Avondale: Secret Stages is a weekend filled with up-and-coming music from local, regional and national talent. Billed as a “music discovery festival,” the event takes place on stages throughout the Avondale area. $30-$100
