Huffman High School Loses 2nd Student In 2 Months To Gun Violence

A Huffman High School student involved in a shooting outside a Huffman recreation center last night was pronounced dead this morning.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Huffman High School student was shot in the head last night outside of Inglenook Recreation Center, and was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital Wednesday morning. Nyteria Spigner, a 17-year-old junior at Huffman High School, was reportedly an innocent bystander at the rec center when a fight broke out and gunfire ensued.

A report by Alabama Media Group said Spigner was trying to fleethe altercation when a bullet hit her jaw. The report said there were 30 to 40 people outside the center when the fight broke out - presumable between two females over a man. A female suspect was taken into custody for questioning but was released Wednesday.

The incident comes a little less than two months after another Huffman High School student, Courtlin Arrington, was shot and killed inside the high school right after school was dismissed. In that case, fellow student Michael Jerome Barber was been charged with manslaughter and certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol.
