Last week's headlines reviewed: Some disturbing school news, and a new city councilor was named in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Leading up to the mid-term elections Tuesday, the week that was provided several headlines that raised some eyebrows in Birmingham, especially in two local schools. As well, Jay Roberson's vacant seat on the Birmingham City Council was filled, with two more seats to be filled in the coming weeks.

Here are some of the news items that made headlines during the week of October 30-November 1:

Sexual Misconduct Alleged At Altamont School Between 70s and 90s

An independent study revealed that one of Birmingham's most prestigious private schools may have a sordid past. Allegations of sexual misconduct by school employees dating back to the 1970s - ranging from inappropriate comments to actual sexual relations between faculty and students - were revealed by multiple alumnae in the study.

13-Year-Old Arrested In Gun Store Burglary

The Hoover Police Department arrested a 13-year-old boy who allegedly broke into Hoover Tactical Firearms and stole multiple handguns October 29 night. The arrest was made early Tuesday morning.

Jay Roberson's Vacated City Council Seat Filled

The District 7 seat on the Birmingham Cirty Council, vacated when Coincilman Jay Roberson resigned in September, has been filled by former Birmingham City Board of Education President Wardine Alexander. She was approved by a vote of 5-3.

Man Charged In Child Pornography Case By Pelham Police

A two-month long joint investigation between the Pelham Police Department and the Hoover Police Department has resulted in the arrest of a man on five counts of possessing child pornography. The arrest was made October 30 by the Pelham PD.

Threat At Oak Mountain Middle School Results In Charges

A student at Oak Mountain Middle School was taken into custody for allegedly making threats toward another student involving use of a gun. On Thursday, November 1, the school resource officer assigned to Oak Mountain Middle School received a report from school officials regarding the threat, and an investigation followed.
