What To Do In The Birmingham Area This Weekend
While college football is more often than not on the agenda for a fall weekend in Birmingham, here are some other suggestions.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - With the rain finally leaving the area for the first time in several days, and the temperatures lower than the city has seen in months, this weekend might be a good time to get out in the city. Of course, college football fans have plenty to keep them busy on Saturday, but those who want something to do before, after or instead of football have plenty of options.
Here are some of the happenings in and around Birmingham this weekend:
Fiesta 2018 - Sweet 16 ¡Celebrando A Todo Color!; Linn Park, Birmingham, Sept. 29 from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.: Birmingham's Hispanic heritage festival is back, with music, dancing, food and art for the whole family. Admission to Fiesta ranges from $5 to $10 in advance (depending on applicable early bird pricing) or $10 at the gate. Children ages 12 and under are admitted for free. Donations to the Fiesta scholarship fund are also encouraged.

University of Alabama Hockey vs Pitt, Pelham Civic Center, Pelham, Sept. 28-29, 7 p.m.: The University of Alabama hockey team faces the Pitt Panthers in a two-game series at the Pelham Civic Center. General admission is $10 for adults, and for children under 12, $5.
Alabama State Fair; Oak Mountain, Pelham, Sept. 28-Oct. 7, 4 p.m. - 11 p.m.: The fair will begin each day at 4 p.m. The event will feature more than 40 carnival rides, 30 special events and food from 20 concession stands. Music will be provided by Parker Redmond, Jimmie Allen, Sharisse Norman, Ashton Riker, Keia Johnson, Neto Bernal, Brandon Solano, Domenic Marte and La Senora Dinimita. Tickets cost $10 for adults ages 13-59 and $5 for children under the age of 12, senior adults over the age of 60 and military personnel with an ID.

Cahaba River Fry-Down, Railroad Park, Sept. 30, 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.: This fundraiser supports Cahaba River Society’s work to protect and restore the Cahaba River. This event features fun for all ages with a carnival-like atmosphere, live music, amazing food, a climbing wall, hula-hoopers, face-painters, educational games, wildlife demonstrations, a beer garden and more. Tickets are $20.
21st Annual Symphony30 Picnic, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Sept. 30, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.: Musicians from the ASO will play a selection of music that the whole family is guaranteed to love. There is even a ‘kidzone’ for your kids to enjoy crafts and other fun activities while enjoying the concert. Food is provided by Jim N Nick’s and all proceeds go to supporting the Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s outreach missions in our communities. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12.50 for kids.
