New initiative gives Chelsea residents inside look (280living.com) — Chelsea residents can now apply for the new Chelsea Government Academy, a five‑month, in‑depth look at how their city operates, from finances to public works. Sessions run on Thursday evenings through February, with city leaders teaching and touring participants through key departments so neighbors better understand how decisions are made and how to get involved.
   

2. Capital projects underway at US 280 area schools (280living.com) — Chelsea families will see a big upgrade at Chelsea High School, where an $8.5 million auxiliary gym and concession area—funded largely by the city—is under construction and expected to finish in spring 2027. The project, a longtime goal of former Mayor Tony Picklesimer, will ease crowded practice schedules and open more space for youth leagues, alongside new turf projects at Oak Mountain and Inverness Elementary HVAC upgrades.
   

3. Annual Chelsea Community Center Fall Craft Fair to be held Oct. 10 (280living.com) — Chelsea's Community Center will host the annual Fall Craft Fair on Oct. 10, filling the building with about 75 local vendors and free admission. Residents can browse handmade goods, support small businesses, enjoy Boy Scouts' funnel cakes and food trucks, and catch up with neighbors at 11101 Shelby County 47 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
   

4. Public safety heroes honored at annual Shelby County awards ... (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Shelby County's annual Public Safety Awards highlighted local heroes, including a sheriff's deputy honored for his work as school resource officer at Chelsea Middle School. The luncheon at Pelham Civic Complex recognized officers and firefighters from across the county for lifesaving responses, victim support, and relationship-building with students, underscoring how coordinated public safety efforts help keep Chelsea-area families safe.
   

5. Officials update the status of a large brush fire at Oak Mountain State Park (wvtm13.com) — Fire crews, including a team from Chelsea, are helping battle a roughly 40‑acre brush fire in a remote area of Oak Mountain State Park, sparked by lightning and reignited Monday. Officials say no homes or structures are threatened and no injuries reported, but smoke may be visible around the region as firefighters continue containment efforts and share updates.
