City Of Huntsville: Huntsville Groups Seek Input On Pedestrian, Bike Safety

As the City of Huntsville increases its focus on alternative transportation, residents will soon have an opportunity to take part in the conversation.

The City and Barge Design Solutions will host a public input session on Memorial Parkway bike and pedestrian safety improvements Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 5-7 p.m. in the 1st floor Conference Room, Public Services Building, 320 Fountain Circle, Huntsville.

In February 2021, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) completed its Area Bike Plan, which includes new biking and pedestrian concepts to improve alternative modes of transportation for the Huntsville area. The plan will be implemented over a 20-year period.

“It’s important to plan now because we envision a Huntsville where more people will be walking, biking or taking public transit to workplaces and recreational amenities,” said Dennis Madsen, Huntsville’s manager of Urban & Long-Range Planning. “As we plan for those alternative modes, safety is a key consideration. We hope to hear some good ideas during the public meetings.”
