Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes received an Alabama A&M diploma 12 years after he took classes there. According to Barnes, he fulfilled all class requirements to receive his degree, but it was never sent due to a technical error he was able to correct years later. (AL.com)

Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- A power outage in Huntsville was caused by a central substation malfunction. The outage affected almost 30,000 customers and crews rerouted the system around the issue to allow customers to have power back and also make it possible to do the repairs without cutting power off. (WHNT)
- David Spillers, the Huntsville Hospital CEO, will retire after 15 years of managing the entire Huntsville Hospital System (HHS). Jeff Samz will be the new CEO after being with the HHS for 12 years. (WHNT)
- The City of Huntsville is applying for a $25 million Department of Transportation grant to build a sky bridge along the eastern boundary of Pinhook Creek that Mayor Battle hopes mimics the feel and usability of San Antonio’s River Walk. Battle says that it would be helpful to some low income areas that would be given easier access to downtown Huntsville for jobs and healthcare. (AL.com)
- Opera Huntsville is hosting their annual Bravo Bravo Gala Saturday night. The event will be at Campus 805 and will feature some opera performances, a silent auction, a catered dinner, and a cash bar. (WHNT)
- Starting Friday and running until the end of the month, Bridge Street is hosting a school supply drive for Free 2 Teach. Several stores as well as the management office will be taking donations, and participants will be entered in a drawing for a $250 gift card from one of the participating stores if they post a selfie with the donation bin using their hashtag.
