Inside NASA Marshall's progress on Artemis III hardware, plans for new SLS upper stage (aiaa.org) — NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville is racing to ready key Space Launch System hardware for the reworked Artemis III mission, now targeting a 2027 low-Earth-orbit demo. Engineers are repurposing shuttle-era components, adapting test articles, and coordinating with Blue Origin and SpaceX while NASA shifts future SLS upper stages to ULA's Centaur V to standardize the rocket design.
   

2. Howard University grad filed 223 job applications before landing his news reporting job in Alabama (thegrio.com) — A recent Howard and Northwestern grad is heading to Huntsville to join Fox 54 as an anchor and reporter, covering local sports and news. After sending 223 job applications nationwide, he chose Huntsville's smaller, diverse media market and opportunities around schools like Alabama A&M to launch his on-air career. His networking-focused approach and mentorship connections ultimately opened the door.
   

3. Unemployment rate drops in Alabama's top metro areas (thebamabuzz.com) — Huntsville currently shares the lowest unemployment rate among Alabama's metro areas at 3.1%, edging down from June even as the statewide rate ticked up slightly. New July labor data show every metro area improved month over month, though most remain above last year's levels. The report also notes Alabama's labor force participation still lags the national average.
   

4. UNA Hall of Famer Dr. Don Cornelius (waff.com) — A Lee High School alum with deep ties to Huntsville, Dr. Don Cornelius starred as a record-setting quarterback at UNA before building a distinguished medical career. He's been honored in both the UNA Athletic Hall of Fame and the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame, reflecting his impact on local sports history. His journey bridges Rocket City classrooms, fields, and clinics.
   

5. Huntsville woman drives donations to storm-ravaged hometown of Gary, Indiana (waff.com) — A Huntsville woman is rallying local support to help storm-battered residents in her hometown of Gary, Indiana, collecting supplies here and personally delivering them up north. Her effort has drawn heartfelt thanks from Indiana neighbors, who say Huntsville's generosity made a real difference. She's now setting up a PO box so Huntsville donors can keep helping directly.
