1. HPD wraps up Summer Slowdown, continues focus on safer roads (huntsvilleal.gov) — Huntsville Police say their Summer Slowdown campaign significantly cut traffic deaths, with only two fatalities this year versus eight last summer. From late May through July, officers focused on speeding and dangerous driving, issuing thousands of citations and warnings, and HPD plans to keep up enforcement to make Huntsville's roads safer.
   

2. Celebrating Education Parade to bring temporary road closures in north Huntsville (huntsvilleal.gov) — Drivers in north Huntsville should plan around temporary road closures Saturday morning, Aug. 22, for the Celebrating Education Parade. Streets along Porter Drive, Greenhill Drive, and Pulaski Pike near Mae Jemison High will close from about 7:45–10 a.m., with Huntsville Police directing traffic and advising extra travel time and caution.
   

3. 7 unique spots to watch the sunset in Huntsville (hvilleblast.com) — If you're chasing a great sunset in Huntsville, this guide rounds up top spots from Burritt on the Mountain and Blevins Gap to rooftop bars and Ditto Landing. Over 300 properties recognized at Huntsville Beautification Awards (whnt.com) — Huntsville has honored 376 homes, businesses and organizations in its 2026 Beautification Awards, recognizing standout landscaping and cleanliness across the city. Local leaders say the long-running program, started in the 1970s, celebrates residents' pride in keeping Huntsville greener, cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.
   

5. From Waco, Texas, to St. George, Utah, smaller commercial markets climb in demand, index says (costar.com) — A new National Association of Realtors index flags Huntsville as one of the country's standout smaller commercial markets, thanks to a notable population boom. The ranking, based on job and population growth rather than rents or vacancies, puts Huntsville alongside places like St. George, Utah and Fayetteville, Arkansas as emerging demand hotspots.
