• UAH-led Alabama Shield 2026 Exercise Puts Drone Technology To The Test In Realistic Disaster Scenarios (huntsvillebusinessjournal.com) — UAH in Huntsville recently led Alabama Shield 2026, a major statewide disaster-response exercise using drones to improve search and rescue, damage assessment, and hazardous-materials reconnaissance. Conducted at the UAH Huntsville UAS and Counter-UAS Test Range, the training brought together first responders, agencies, and researchers to practice realistic tornado and emergency scenarios and strengthen how unmanned systems are integrated into Alabama's disaster planning.

• 2026–27 Katie Geneva Cannon Scholars announced (pcusa.org) — A Huntsville native, Morgan State University junior Miriam Bentley, has been named the undergraduate recipient of the 2026–27 Katie Geneva Cannon Scholarship, recognizing her creative and ministry-focused leadership. As a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, where her father pastors, she hopes to use the award to deepen her artistic outreach, including free music lessons for local children through her home church.
