Mobile woman charged in fatal wreck was caregiver to victims, family says (fox10tv.com) — A February crash at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Callahan Drive in Mobile has led to a grand jury indictment of the driver, a Mobile caregiver now charged with reckless murder and assault after two men died and a third was injured. The victims' families, who say the men lived in a special-needs group home, describe their grief and cautious relief as the case moves forward in Mobile County court.
   

2. 'It's about to get real' – Alabama prepares for giant step toward I-10 bridge project (fox10tv.com) — Heavy Labor Day backups through the Wallace Tunnel highlight why Alabama is racing to finance a $3.2 billion I-10 bridge and expanded Bayway between Mobile and the Eastern Shore. With key loan approvals and bond sales expected Sept. 16-17, officials say construction could start this year, though drivers would eventually repay borrowing costs through tolls.
   

3. Annual Labor Day parade rolls through downtown Mobile (wkrg.com) — Downtown Mobile's annual Labor Day parade filled Government Street with music, floats, marching bands, and plenty of coveted toilet paper throws. Families, including first-timers and long-time parade regulars, turned the holiday into a shared tradition, already staking out shady spots for next year's celebration.
   

4. Mobile Walmart expected to reopen after freezer fire (mynbc15.com) — A Walmart on the I-65 Service Road in Mobile is set to reopen Tuesday after a freezer motor fire filled the store with smoke Sunday afternoon. Mobile Fire-Rescue quickly contained the accidental blaze, no one was hurt, and customers were still able to access prescription refills through curbside pickup while the store was closed.
   

5. Mobile Baykeeper to relaunch water testing program, seeking more volunteers (al.com) — Mobile Baykeeper is restarting its SWIM water-quality testing program on Sept. 11, giving Mobile-area families updated information on where it's safest to swim. Backed by local sponsors, the group is training volunteers to collect samples and is still seeking more community help to expand testing across coastal Alabama.
