Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:

  1. On Friday afternoon, the Alabama Supreme Court issued an order raising the maximum bail amount for murder charges. Previously set at $150,000, a murder suspect's bail in Alabama can now go as high as $1.5 million; judges will still have discretion over bail amounts outside this recommended range. This decision comes shortly after the bail for Tory Johnson, suspect in the Bama Lanes shooting, was raised to $860,000 on Thursday. (WSFA 12 News)
  2. As Montgomery Public Schools searches for a new superintendent, the Alabama Association of School Boards is seeking feedback from the community. The association will hold two public meetings Tuesday, one at 11:00 a.m. and another at 5:30 p.m., at the Lee High School auditorium. Anyone who cannot make the meeting but wants to comment is invited to fill out an online survey. (WSFA 12 News)
  3. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, two of Montgomery's leading civil rights attractions are offering free admission today. Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice are both waiving their usual $5 fee for the day. (AL.com)
