Here are the top stories today in Montgomery:

  1. A teenage hitchhiker in Alabama who died in a 1961 crash has finally been identified after 60 years. A team of genealogists, using DNA from a 2016 exhumation of the body, confirmed the remains to be those of 15-year-old Daniel Paul "Danny" Armantrout. The remains were taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery to obtain parts of the remains to send to researchers at the University of North Texas in an attempt to get DNA. Danny's identification represents the oldest case of a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children subject ever solved by genetic genealogy. (AL.com)
  2. Two people have been injured, one critically, after a head-on collision in Pike Road.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened near William-Stinson Road and Marler Road. A person was taken from the scene by helicopter in critical condition, while another person was taken by ambulance. No other injuries were reported.(WSFA 12)
  3. Montgomery County officials have been busy getting ready for today's election. A number of local races are featured on the Nov. 2 ballot, including councils, school boards, and judgeships.
