Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:
- Montgomery police report that a woman was fatally shot on Friday morning. Officers and medics were called to South McGehee Place Drive around 7:00 a.m., at which time they found a woman with life-threatening injuries. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation. (WSFA 12)
- Alabama State University (ASU)'s student news team received five awards in the 24th annual Southeast Journalism Conference's Best of the South Awards. The Hornet Tribune received fourth place in the Best Newspaper Website category, while four students captured individual awards. Ronald Martin, a freshman art major and Montogmery native, took home first place for Best Artist/Illustrator. (Alabama State University)

- A vehicle fire on Interstate 85 southbound near Ann Street caused delays for morning commuters on Friday. The lanes have since been cleared. (WSFA 12)
- The Alabama Senate voted for a budget that would raise minimum salaries for teachers with nine or more years of experience. If passed completely in October, teachers in Montgomery and statewide will receive a five percent pay raise, plus a one percent increase every year. (NBC 15 News)
