First, today's weather:

Nice with plenty of sunshine. High: 71 Low: 51.

Here are the top stories today in Montgomery:

  1. The Mongomery County Commission has been awarded a grant of nearly $179,000 to assist Montgomery County residents in weathering their homes. People with disabilities, low-income households with children, and the elderly will receive priority. The funding comes from a larger $2.9 million grant, distributed by Governor Kay Ivey to 13 community agencies across Alabama. (WTVY News 4)
  2. While many local schools were out on spring break, the youth at Fortitude Leadership Academy in Montgomery built homes for endangered birds. Led by Roosevelt Robinson, an Urban Regional Extension Agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the program is part of an effort to offer educational outreach to underserved populations in Alabama. Robinson, who guided the children in the building and placing of the birdhouses, hopes the event will spark interest in both STEM careers and the great outdoors. (U.S. News)
  3. A domestic-related incident on Friday afternoon has left one person dead and another critically injured, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey. Montgomery police found one man dead on the scene, with a second taken to a local hospital in a life-threatening condition. The incident reportedly involved an off-duty Montgomery County sheriff's deputy, though authorities did not specify that individual's role. (WSFA 12)
