🌱 Nancy Worley Dies + Baptist Health's New COVID Policies

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Montgomery.

Good morning, Montgomery! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to celebrate the New Year, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and I will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Montgomery Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy, showers around. High: 73 Low: 67.

Here are the top 3 stories in Montgomery today:

  1. Nancy Worley, former chair of the Alabama Democratic Party, secretary of state, and president of the Alabama Education Association, died Wednesday morning in Montgomery at the age of 70. A Madison County native, Worley was elected chair of the state Democratic Party in 2013. She was reelected in 2018 and replaced by in 2019 after a contentious, year-long dispute between factions of the party. (AL.com)
  2. Baptist Health has some policy updates in light of new COVID-19 cases, including a newly-restricted visitation policy. Until further notice, patients will be allowed one visitor at a time for a total of two designated visitors per calendar day; exceptions may be granted in compassionate care situations, such as OB patients, NICU, and end-of-life scenarios. Besides visitation changes, Baptist Health's other main update is the suspension of monoclonal antibody treatments for COVID-19 patients due to a national shortage. (WSFA 12)
  3. From massive blockbusters to indie darlings to binge-worthy shows, Alabamians stole scenes (and the show) in front of and behind the camera in 2021. Montgomery native Octavia Spencer had a busy year, with "Thunder Force," "Encounter," and "Truth Be Told." Other Alabama natives and transplants featured in the AL.com roundup include Courteney Cox, Tony Hale, and Suni Lee. (AL.com)
