Here are the top 3 stories in Montgomery today:

  1. A new state-of-the-art fire station will soon make its way to west Montgomery. The 20,000 square foot station will include a new engine truck, enhanced EMS response, and other improvements as well as classroom space for the community's use. The project is part of the Montgomery Forward initiative, created to make "long-needed" capital improvement projects by reinvesting $50 million into the community. (WSFA 12)
  2. Alabama reported a daily average of more than 6,000 COVID-19 cases Monday, and the 7-day average is at an all-time high of 6,139. Yet, medical officials remain optimistic: hospitalizations statewide have remained relatively stable, and have not reached anywhere near the numbers seen in 2021. (Patch)
  3. Funeral arrangements have been announced for Nancy Worley, the former Alabama Secretary of State who passed away last week at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. Worley's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, at First Baptist Church in New Hope, followed by burial at New Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. next week (Jan. 12) at the Alabama Activity Center at 201 Dexter Avenue, Montgomery. (Alabama News Network)
