1. U.S. Marshals searching for Montgomery capital murder suspect; $2,500 reward offered (waka.com) — Law enforcement is asking Montgomery residents to help locate William Jordan Wingard, wanted on two counts of capital murder in connection with a July shooting that killed 62-year-old Alan Griffin. U.S. Marshals and local police warn he may be dangerous and are offering a $2,500 reward for tips to CrimeStoppers that lead to his arrest.
   

2. Montgomery City Council approves short-term rental ordinance (waka.com) — Montgomery's City Council has unanimously approved a new ordinance regulating short-term rental properties, setting rules for registration, management, and how quickly owners must respond to police or fire calls. Owners now have one hour to respond before risking loss of their business license, and the measure awaits Mayor Steven Reed's signature before taking effect.
   

3. Former East Family YMCA to soon reopen with a new look, new name (waka.com) — Montgomery residents will soon see the former East Family YMCA reopen as the renovated Dalraida Family YMCA after a $2.5 million upgrade. A ribbon cutting is set for the morning of September 11, unveiling expanded amenities aimed at helping Dalraida-area individuals and families connect, get healthier, and build community.
   

4. Alabama's second medical cannabis dispensary opens in Talladega (sylacauganews.com) — Montgomery is home to Alabama's first medical cannabis dispensary, and now a second location has opened in Talladega as the state's new program expands. Officials say more dispensaries are coming soon, giving qualified patients across Alabama—including Montgomery residents—additional options for accessing tightly regulated, non-smokable cannabis products for certain medical conditions.
   

5. Lawsuit filed looking to remove Republican Lt. Gov. candidate John Wahl from ballot over residency (wsfa.com) — A lawsuit filed in Montgomery County Circuit Court seeks to remove Republican lieutenant governor candidate John Wahl from the November ballot, arguing he hasn't met Alabama's residency requirement. The case cites driver's license and voter registration records, while Democrat Phillip Ensler of Montgomery, Wahl's opponent, says voters deserve clarity as the court weighs whether Wahl is eligible to serve.
