1. What happened to LAMP in the U.S. News rankings? (aldailynews.com) — Parents and students in Montgomery are wondering why LAMP, long one of Montgomery County's top public schools, vanished from U.S. News' 2026 high school rankings. U.S. News and state education officials are giving conflicting explanations about test data, and Montgomery Public Schools says it's investigating before offering a fuller public response. 
2. Alabama PSC to consider changes to Spire gas bills, fixed charge could rise $5 (abc3340.com) — Montgomery-based state regulators are set to vote Tuesday on changes to Spire Alabama gas bills that would raise the fixed monthly customer charge by $5 over two years. The Alabama Public Service Commission calls the proposal revenue-neutral, but consumer advocates and the Attorney General oppose the higher fixed fee and are pushing for lower utility returns.
3. New partnership aims to preserve and protect historic black places nationwide (wbiw.com) — A new national partnership to protect historic Black heritage sites directly touches Montgomery through the endangered Ben Moore Hotel, acquired by The Conservation Fund in 2025. The National Trust's African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund will help guide restoration and long-term stewardship of properties like this, aiming to keep pivotal African American history sites from being lost.
4. Commissioner of Agriculture candidates share concerns about Trump admin beef import plan (wsfa.com) — Alabama's agriculture commissioner candidates, speaking from Montgomery, are pushing back on the Trump administration's move to allow 300,000 metric tons of tariff-free beef imports, warning it could hurt local cattle farmers. Both major-party candidates and Alabama's congressional delegation are demanding stronger safety assurances and protections for in-state producers, while regulators and advocates urge consumers to prioritize Alabama-grown products.
5. Mother-son duo works together at middle school, son named Class Act winner (wsfa.com) — From a Montgomery-based newsroom comes a feel-good story about Cheryl and Isiah Perry, a mother-son team working together at Tipton-Durant Middle School in Selma. Isiah, a Dallas County native and Alabama State University graduate, teaches sixth-grade math, uses creative, hands-on lessons, and was just honored as WSFA's monthly Class Act award winner.
