- Representative Steve McMillan, Alabama's longest-serving member of the state House, is seeking treatment for three small brain tumors and plans to retire at the end of his term. Despite this, the 80-year-old representative vows to be a participant in this year's legislative session. He is currently undergoing an "aggressive treatment plan" and has received offers from his colleagues for assistance driving to and from Montgomery this spring. (AL.com)
- Animal shelters across the River Region are gearing up for a spike in donations, thanks to the "Betty White Challenge." In honor of what would have been White's 100th birthday, fans have taken to social media to ask others to donate just $5 to, or rescue a pet from, a shelter of their choice. (WSFA 12)
- A 19-year-old in Montgomery is dead after a shooting early Friday morning. Montgomery police officers and medics were called to the 6000 block of Cherry Hill around midnight, where they found Delijah Davis, who had been fatally shot. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. (WSFA 12)
