🌱 SPLC Commends Street Name Change + 3 Arrested For Robbery

Here are the top stories in Montgomery today:

  1. The Montgomery-based Southern Poverty Law Center commended the city of Montgomery in a statement Thursday for renaming Jefferson Davis Avenue to Fred D. Gray Avenue in honor of the late civil rights attorney, who grew up on the street. Renaming the street also drew a $25,000 fine from Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, who further threatened the city with a lawsuit if the fine went unpaid. (Alabama Political Reporter)
  2. Three people are facing charges after a victim was robbed of his vehicle at gunpoint in Montgomery. Capt. Saba Coleman says Keontae Mallory, 20, Pe'metrius Mallory, 16, and an unidentified juvenile male are each facing robbery charges. (WSFA)
  3. The Montgomery Public Schools system has partnered with the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Bloom Health to offer voluntary COVID-19 testing to students, teachers, and staff members at 21 elementary schools. (WSFA)
