Here are the top three stories today in Montgomery:
- A crash over the weekend has resulted in the death of Montgomery's 23-year-old Judith M. Caterino. The 2011 Kia Optima struck a power pole after leaving Wares Ferry Road. Caterino was a passenger in the vehicle and an investigation into the crash is being conducted by the ALEA's Highway Patrol Division. (WSFA12 News)
- Alabama's plan for controlling invasive aquatic species has been approved by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The state is now eligible for $100,000 to fight carp and various species of aquatic plants. Reportedly, the state will seek the funding during the 2022 cycle with it being implemented throughout the Tennessee River system. (WSFA12 News)
- A death row inmate in a high-profile Alabama murder case from 1988 has died from cancer. William Ernest Kuenzel, 60, was convicted of killing Linda Jean Offord in 1987 during a robbery at a convenience store. Kuenzel maintained his innocence throughout the case that declined review by the United States Supreme Court in 2016. (AL.com)
