Registration open for TROY hackathon Oct. 31-Nov. 1 (oanow.com) — Troy University’s Department of Computer Science is inviting students to a 24-hour Hackathon on campus Oct. 31–Nov. 1, focusing on cybersecurity, gaming, web development, and language models. With mentors, workshops, and prizes for top teams, the event welcomes students from any major, and registration remains open online through Oct. 29.
   

2. Hazing investigation underway at 2nd Troy University fraternity (wsfa.com) — Troy residents should know that Troy University has issued a cease-and-desist order to the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity while it investigates hazing allegations, just days after suspending Pi Kappa Phi until at least fall 2029. Officials say all fraternity operations and events must stop during the probe, though details of the alleged incidents have not been released.
   

3. Sunday Troy homicide happened at house party, police seeking more witnesses (wsfa.com) — Troy police are still looking for witnesses to a deadly Sunday shooting at a Hanchey Street house party that left a 22-year-old man dead and a 29-year-old suspect charged with felony murder. Investigators say more accounts or photos from anyone who was there could be crucial, and the police chief urges residents to contact officers rather than ignore signs of trouble at large gatherings.
   

4. Troy Honors Program Connects Students With Career Mentors (wiregrassdailynews.com) — Troy University is launching a Distinguished Faculty mentoring initiative within its Honors Global Scholars Program to connect top students with accomplished professionals and alumni. The first mentor, renowned surgeon Dr. E. Gaylon McCollough, is already working with biomedical sciences student Cade May of Troy, offering shadowing and career guidance meant to turn strong academics into clear professional paths.
   

5. Governor: CHOOSE Act helps student stay at school (alreporter.com) — A Troy sixth grader at Pike Liberal Arts School is highlighted as one of more than 34,000 Alabama students using Governor Kay Ivey’s CHOOSE Act education savings program to stay at a school she loves. Her mother, who runs SheBang!! Clog Dance Company in Troy, describes how the funds help cover tuition and specialized support, while state officials praise the program’s impact.
