TUSCALOOSA, AL — After two unrelated homicides involving children were confirmed in Tuscaloosa County on Friday, a teenager was also injured in a weekend shooting that went largely unnoticed amid the chaos. However, it represents one of three shootings since Friday involving victims that were 16 years old or younger.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed to Patch on Tuesday that officers were called to DCH Regional Medical Center just after midnight Sunday morning for a call of a 13-year-old boy who had arrived at the hospital's emergency room with gunshot wounds.

The teen reportedly told an officer that he was walking in the 400 block of 30th Place in University Manor, when he heard multiple gunshots fired from behind him.

TPD says he ran when he heard the shots ring out, but was struck in the ankle. Thinking quickly, the teen tied a hoodie around the wound and called a family member who then rushed him to the hospital.

Officers who responded to the scene also reported discovering two unoccupied vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.

TPD said the investigation was then turned over to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. No arrests have been announced by the multi-agency unit as of the publication of this story.

The weekend shooting also marks one of four in Tuscaloosa County since Friday, resulting in three deaths and two injuries.

But when factoring in a Friday homicide investigation involving a 6-month-old who arrived dead in an ambulance at DCH, the number of new death investigations sits at four since Friday.

On Friday, 13-year-old Kei'lan Allen was struck with a bullet and killed as he played on his iPad in the bedroom of his family's Washington Square home. The following day, the University Manor teen would be the next victim of gun violence, but is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

Tuesday afternoon would bring more violence, beginning in Hay Court apartments, where a 28-year-old man was shot and eventually died from his injuries after being transported to DCH Regional Medical Center. He was identified as Trevoris Sheppard, of Tuscaloosa.

Later in the evening hours, an unrelated drive-by shooting at Wendy's in Northport would result in the death of 16-year-old Trinity Shannon, along with the male driver of the car she was a passenger in also being injured.
