Herndon said on Saturday that he will be in contact with local officials from affected communities across different states on Monday as they continue to assess their needs.

"Preliminary plans are to leave very early on Saturday morning (Dec. 19) with hopefully several trucks and trailers," he said on Facebook. "Decisions on the destinations will be made midweek."

As the Associated Press reported on Sunday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said his state's death toll from the outbreak could top 100. In places like Mayfield, Kentucky — perhaps the hardest hit community — the town was completely leveled by a powerful, long-track tornado that was reportedly on the ground for more than 200 miles.

"You all have helped so much and have a good idea of what to donate," Herndon said. "Just think about products that you would need if you were in the same situation. With Christmas being ruined for hundreds of families I ask that if possible you donate stuffed animals or toys for the children."

The donation drive is just the most recent for Herndon, who has logged countless miles delivering donations to devastated communities. These recently included gathering donations for those impacted by a devastating tornado in neighboring Bibb County in March, then for those in southern Louisiana earlier this fall following Hurricane Ida earlier this year.

Herndon said he will start accepting donations Monday at his surveying firm's office, located at 2728 Lurleen Wallace Boulevard in Northport.
