As for the second charge, Adams is accused of using his position as a public official to access fuel for his allegedly illegal travel.

It is unclear at this time if Adams is still employed by the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

According to meeting minutes from the Alabama Ethics Commission in December 2022, the commission ruled that, based on evidence, it was believed that Adams had committed minor violations of the Alabama Ethics Act, and further moved that the case be handled administratively.

The case was then referred for review and appropriate legal action to District Attorney Hays Webb.

Circuit Court Judge Daniel F. Pruet set bond for Adams at $20,000, which he has since posted and has been released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

State law says an intentional violation Alabama ethics law is classified as a Class B felony, which is punishable by two to 20 years in prison and/or a fine not to exceed $10,000.
