Another Death Trap? Oakland Restaurant Owner Complains About Warehouse

OAKLAND, CA — The owner of a restaurant in Oakland's Jack London Square has scheduled a news conference Wednesday morning in the wake of the tragic Ghost Ship fire to draw attention to another warehouse that she says poses a public safety hazard.

Dorothy King, owner of Everett and Jones barbecue restaurant, has invited members of the media to gather at 126 Broadway at 10 a.m. Wednesday to bring attention to the potential fire hazards associated with an adjacent building at 411 Second St.

"I know for a fact there's only one way in or one way out," King said. "You can come on Friday and Saturday night and the lines are around the corner."

An establishment known as The Salt Lick is listed at 411 Second St., according to Google Maps, where it is described as a "place of worship."

The Salt Lick's Facebook page describes it as an arts and entertainment venue.

The Salt Lick could not immediately be reached for comment.Warehouse spaces and artist colonies in Oakland have been subject to increased scrutiny since Friday night's fatal fire at the Ghost Ship in
Fruitvale, which took the lives of at least 36 people.
