Bomb Threat With Racial Undertones Made Against Oakland School

Oakland police and Alameda County Sheriff's Office bomb squad responded Tuesday to Chabot Elementary School.

OAKLAND, CA — A bomb threat with racial undertones was made Tuesday morning against Chabot Elementary School in Oakland, police said.

Oakland police were told of the threat via email from the school's principal just before 7:30 a.m.

The school is located at 6686 Chabot Road.

Officer responded and evacuated about 30 students in addition to the staff and employees from the school, Capt. Lisa Ausmus said. The school day had not yet started.

Students were safely reunited with their families while school employees were evacuated to a safe area until the school was determined to be safe to reenter, Ausmus said.

A bomb squad from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office came and was making that determination, according to police.

The FBI is going to assist police in an investigation of the threat, Ausmus said.
